In Canada, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities have exclusive rights to allow for new transmission development on their traditional lands. Thus, there is no scenario where another competitor can bring transmission to the region without their consultation. This creates the opportunity to expand projects into a network of asset as part of a larger upgrade to the regional transmission system.

Revenue generated by the project can assist communities in funding community programs, health care initiatives, housing, etc. Moreover, projects open the possibility for employment within the community.

Environmental & Social Commitments

Ameren has received a number of awards of social distinction:

  • Ranked first in the United States on the DiversityInc 2022 listing of Top Utilities;
  • Scored 100 out of 100 for the 2022 Disability Equality Index for the seventh consecutive year;
  • Scored a perfect 100% on the Corporate Equality Index for the sixth consecutive year; and
  • Directed approximately $140 million to support eligible customers and charities between 2019 and 2021.

Ameren has aligned the company’s goals with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, recognizing that it can have the greatest impact in the areas of affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.

Ameren has set the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2045, enabled by expanding its renewable energy resources without compromising on affordability and reliability. Their goal is to reduce carbon emissions 60% by 2030 and 85% by 2040, from 2005 levels
